Autonomy means being free to take decision without the interference of higher authority. It means that someone is able to make a sensible decision without being forced to do so by someone else.
Independence:
Independence is not being dependent on others or anyone for anything. Independence does not necessarily mean freedom. A country gets its independence when it is no longer part of another country.
