Espresso is a type of strong black coffee made by forcing steam through ground coffee beans. Espresso is generally thicker than coffee brewed by other methods. Espresso is the base for other drinks such as caffe latte, cappuccino, caffe macchiato, cafe mocha and caffe Americano. Espresso contains more caffeine per unit volume than other coffee beverages because the usual serving size is much smaller and the total caffeine content is less.
