Difference between modem and router

Modem:
A modem is a device which provides an access to an internet. The modem brings the information in. Modems can be used with any means of transmitting analog signals, from light emitting diodes to radio.
Router:
A router is a small box which allows numerous computers to join for the same network. The router distributes the information to different devices like computers and phones. A router provides security measures to protect your network.
